Roman colony from 177 b.C. and municipality from 89 b.C. of the Gallia
Cisalpina, so augustean colony in the Regio VII, Lucca was famous centre
of the Council for the renew of the first triumvirate between Cesare, Crasso
and Pompeo.
Its importance as road joint (Cassia street and Clodia street) was
biggest and it is remainded in that way from the antiquity at the middle
age.
The town preservesthe urbanistic roman regular plant with blocks
sqare built on the basis of the tree actus (long 105 meters): the Foro
is occupied from church and from San Michele in Foro square, while, inside
the walls at north, stay the theater ( the rests of the wedge are visible
in the church of Sant'Agostino and in the surrounding streets).
Out of walls, there is the amphiteatrum: the Mercato square occupies
the zone where there was he amphiteatrum and the medieval house arereplaced
